Nearest Car Dispatch

Nearest Car Dispatch

On the morning 9th January 2018 between 07:30 – 09:00 we used Nearest Car dispatch method.  No job was more than 15 minutes late at the time of dispatch and very few jobs were rejected or recovered.

Drivers at work during this morning may have noticed they were getting jobs very close to them.

We have been using this method for far-out zones for a long time and we actually informed drivers of this several months ago.

We intend to change this system of the nearest car dispatch at all times.  This will mean that if you have got a job, you were the nearest car at that time.

This does mean there will be no rank and we expect drivers to trust the system to give the job to whoever was closest.

Example

Currently, if a driver was at Big Pan in Bilston and there was another driver clear at Wiseman Dairies.

A job comes in from Tyler Road, the system will pull the driver from Wisemans and the Big Pan Driver would not get the job even though he is closer.  The Big pan driver in 10 seconds is now first in Willenhall Zone

Then 10 seconds later a job comes from Wiseman Dairies and then the Big Pan driver all the way to Wisemans.

The above example is happening all day every day and is very inefficient.  We will be looking to trial nearest car this week and will text you when this trial goes live.

This results in:

  • Fewer Recoveries
  • Fewer Rejections
  • Harder for feeding to occur (operator does not know who is next)
  • More jobs covered
  • Less Dead mileage
  • Much better service for customers
  • Very short waiting time when customers look on App

For this to work, drivers must dispense with conspiracy theories and trust that our auto dispatch system gives out the jobs automatically to the nearest car.
